An Overview of the American Institute of Architects

The American Institute of Architects is an organization that provides education and support for architects in the United States. It was founded in 1857 by 13 architects and was intended to provide these professionals with assistance and leadership in the occupation. Over the course of the organization’s history it has grown in size. As of today, the organization currently has over 90,000 members. All of these members work with each other to provide support and guidance in an effort to maintain excellence in the field. With the collaboration of all of the members, the American Institute of Architects has proven to be an organization that enhances the professional development of these professionals. The American Institute of Architects is currently headquartered in Washington D.C. and has over 260 chapters in other locations in the world.

One of the things that makes the American Institute among the top organizations is its values. These values help ensure that architects are in position to do their best work through the use of various resources. When it comes to the values of the organization, equity, diversity and inclusion is among the top things that AIA emphasizes. This allows professionals from a variety of backgrounds to contribute to the field. The organization also looks to advocate improvements in things such as climate change, immigration, infrastructure and sustainability. With all of these values, the American Institute of Architects has been able to make valuable contributions to society as a whole.

Robert Ivy is the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the institute. He has been leading the American Institute of Architects since the year 2011. Under his leadership, the institute has been able to grow as well as continue enhancing the professional development of architects that are members of the organization. Before leading the American Institute of Architects, Robert was the Editor in Chief of Architectural Record. He helped this publication grow and become one of the most recognized architectural journal in the world. Ivy would also serve as the Vice President and Editorial Director of McGraw Hill Construction Media.

During the course of his career, Robert Ivy has won a number of awards. He has received the premier magazine journalism award. Ivy has also received awards such as the American Society of Magazine Editors National Magazine Award for General Excellence and also received awards that were issued by the Architectural Record. These achievements have proven that Robert has been very competent in managing quality publications about the architectural field. In March of 2010, Ivy was voted as the Master Architect due to his ability to effectively communicate the value of design for architectural projects.
